    Week 10: Signal Path
Creating the signal path when setting up a PA or lighting system can be a challenge. Consideration must be taken in to account for many different input sensitivities. The rated sensitivity can vary greatly between different manufacturer's for everything from DMX protocol to powered speaker systems and standard amplifier racks. And not all of them have volume or sensitivity adjustments. Modern systems require multiple outputs set at varying levels. It pays to have a clear understanding of these principles and have an ability to create a plan for your signal path that is flexible and redundant. In addition we will review specific diagramming techniques for documenting signal path and some of the conventions and rules that these documents follow. We originally examined some of these techniques in Chapter 7 of the SRH will review block diagrams and schematics as well.

  • Resources for Week 10

The main presentation is your primary resource for this week. Review the presentation in class and students should post your questions about signal path in the discussion forums. there are so many possible combinations of signal types and pathways that you will find yourself having to update your knowledge about your entire career. Manufacturers are constantly inventing new devices and signal processing devices. It's bound to change throughout your lifetime.

    Read Chapter#7 of the SRH.

Discuss the Feature Presentation during class and review on your own time. Log-in to the CMS and navigate to the forums to post your questions about signal path and how tho plan for the distribution and use of audio, video and lighting system signals.
